Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui recently underwent a minor corrective heart procedure after experiencing palpitations, Soccernet.football reports.

The full-back joined United from Bayern Munich in August for an initial fee of £12.8m and has featured in all seven of Manchester United’s Premier League matches this season, with a total of 10 appearances across all competitions.

Mazraoui was taken off at half-time of Man United’s goalless draw with Aston Villa last weekend and was replaced by Victor Lindelof. This move at the time, left fans and onlookers surprised with Erik Ten Hag reluctant to reveal the seriousness of the issue.

Initial reports suggested the 26-year-old might be out for around two months due to a cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis, but following surgery, his recovery is expected to take much less time.

According to Sky Sports, club sources said: “This is a relatively common condition and Noussair is expected to make a full recovery and be available for selection within the next few weeks.”

Back in January 2023, Mazraoui had to step away from football due to heart tissue inflammation caused by Covid-19. At that time, he resumed ball work in training after a month but did not return to competitive play until March.

News of Mazraoui’s surgery means the Moroccan joins a long list of United defensive absentees. Harry Maguire also came off at half-time of United’s draw at Aston Villa with a muscular injury and is set to be out for a few weeks.

United head coach Ten Hag will have a lot of pondering to do as these new setbacks leave his side short at the back. Mazraoui and Maguire will be joining long-term absentees Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro on the sidelines.
