Former Chelsea and Marseille forward Tony Cascarino has advised Liverpool to target Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as the long-term successor to Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian forward departs next summer, Soccernet.football reports.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino highlighted Mbeumo’s qualities, suggesting that the versatile Brentford attacker could fill Salah’s shoes at Anfield.

Cascarino shared his views, saying, “I remember saying to you that if Mo Salah left, Mbeumo would be the one I would have gone after. He’s got so much about him, he’s got goals, he’s got durability. He’s just a nuisance every time he plays.”

Bryan Mbeumo, 25, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers since Brentford’s promotion in 2021.

Born in Avallon, France, he came through the ranks at Troyes before deciding to represent Cameroon at the senior level despite playing for France in youth football.

His impressive performances at Brentford, where he has contributed 25 goals and 21 assists in over 200 appearances, have caught the attention of top clubs, including Liverpool.

Liverpool’s interest in Mbeumo is largely driven by uncertainty over Salah’s future.

The Egyptian winger has been central to the club’s success since joining from AS Roma seven years ago, but he may leave as a free agent in 2025.

Alongside Salah, attackers Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have also attracted transfer interest, putting further pressure on Liverpool to secure attacking reinforcements.

With Mbeumo valued at £50 million by Brentford, Liverpool may face a battle to sign the Cameroonian, but his Premier League experience and peak form make him a compelling target.

The question remains whether the Reds will make a move for Mbeumo next summer should Salah bid farewell to Anfield.
