Manchester City forward Phil Foden has been named the winner of the Premier League’s Player of the Season award, Soccernet.football reports.

Foden has enjoyed the most productive season of his career to play a major role in Man City’s charge to win the league title for a fourth consecutive campaign.

The England international has claimed a career-best 17 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season, before City’s final game on Sunday.

“To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of,” Foden told the club’s official website.

“The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.”

“Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season,” Foden added.

“I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my team-mates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”

To clinch the prestigious award, the midfielder overcame stiff competition from City team-mate Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak (Newcastle United), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).

Foden’s win is the fifth season in a row that a Man City player has won the award.

Foden had on May 3 claimed the 2024 Football Writers’ Association men’s Footballer of the Year award to complete a remarkable individual double.
