Former Chelsea captain John Terry has called on his darling club to ignore the temptation to sack Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season, Soccernet.football reports.

Terry played for the Londoners during their golden years, winning five Premier League titles and lifting the 2012 UEFA Champions League.

But those glory days are over, with Chelsea not winning any title since 2021 and not having laid their hands on the Premier League trophy since 2017.

This season has been even more terrible for the Blues, as Pochettino’s men have only won 15 of their 35 league games and are set to finish outside the top six.

With no Champions League football next season for Chelsea, speculations are mounting that the Stamford Bridge landlords could replace the former Tottenham Hotspurs boss.

However, Terry wants Chelsea to stick with the Argentine manager and give him more time to turn the club’s fortunes.

“I think Poch has done well,” the former England skipper told the Mirror. “It was always going to be difficult right from the outset – we were a very young group of players from the outset. There were a lot of signings and a big clearcut in the summer of not only players but staff as well. There was a big turnaround, and obviously Poch is new in the door.

“I have seen him work, I love the way he works, I love the way he is with the players. He certainly needs a bit of time. And I think we have seen that in the last couple of weeks, the better performances we have seen, the players growing into their roles and feeling like they belong at Chelsea as well. That is also going to take time and I just think we need to be patient. I think every club needs stability

“We have been very lucky at Chelsea. For 20 years we have had success year after year after year. We have got a young squad and we look like we have got some really good players at the moment that can grow into their roles. Hopefully, next season will be better.”

Chelsea Sacking Would Not Be ‘The End Of The World’ – Pochettino

While John Terry is keen to see Mauricio Pochettino remain at the helm of affairs at Chelsea, the former PSG manager says he has no problem leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Despite presiding over an inconsistent campaign, Pochettino insists he must be as happy as the club about moving forward together.

“If we are happy, perfect,” said 52-year-old Pochettino.

“But it is not only if the owners are happy or the sporting directors happy… You need to ask us also, because maybe (we) say ‘we are not happy’ and we accept the situation and we need to split,” Pochettino said.

“It is not going to be the first time the coaching staff at the end of the season decide to not keep going. But at this end, it is always the opposite way; it is always the owners or the sporting directors.

“Maybe we are not happy because we arrive here with a job to do and in the end, it has not happened,” he added. “I am not saying I am not happy.

“If we split, it’s not a problem. It will not be the end of the world.”

Chelsea hosts Nottingham Forest on Saturday and take on Brighton on Wednesday before finishing the season at home against Bournemouth on 19 May.
