Ex-Italian striker fires warning at Juventus over Victor Osimhen pursuit

Former Italian center-forward Luca Toni has warned Juventus against exploring their interest in Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen due to his uncertainty as to whether the Nigerian would be a good fit in Turin, Footynaija.com reports.

Juventus have shown strong interest in the 26-year-old striker, who is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray after clashing with Napoli’s management.

Osimhen is expected to complete a permanent move away from Estadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer, with the Bianconeri reportedly targeting the prolific striker for a transfer to the Allianz Stadium.

However, Toni, who enjoyed World Cup success with Italy back in 2006 and scored over 300 career goals for club and country, has warned the 36-time Serie A champions against bringing former the Lille man to Turin.

While Toni does not doubt Osimhen’s overall quality, the former Juventus striker’s concerns lie in the Nigerian’s ability to successfully blend into Thiago Motta’s pattern of play.

In his words as per Italian media outlet Football Italia: “At the end of the season, everyone will have to make assessments, starting with Juventus, who must decide what kind of striker they want to rely on.

“Osimhen offers more depth than Vlahovic but perhaps links the play even less than Dusan. So, I’m unsure if it would make much difference for Thiago Motta.”

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s impressive form in Turkey continues to make him an attractive option for many top clubs across Europe. He has bagged 17 goals and registered 5 assists since swapping Naples for Istanbul last summer.

Whether Juventus decide to heed the warning of their former striker or not, Osimhen is still likely to have a host of suitors this summer, especially if he carries his fine form all the way to the end of the season.
