CD Leganes’ efforts to secure a deal for Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers have hit a significant hurdle due to the Scottish club’s high valuation of the Nigerian international, Soccernet.football reports.

The LaLiga 2 side has been closely monitoring Dessers and is keen to bring the 30-year-old to the Estadio Municipal Butarque to strengthen their attacking options.

Dessers, who has netted 16 goals in 33 appearances this season, remains a coveted target for Leganes, but Rangers’ insistence on a substantial transfer fee is complicating negotiations.

According to reports by Spanish outlet AS, while Leganes are considering a loan arrangement until the end of the season, Rangers are unwilling to entertain anything less than a permanent deal.

This financial impasse has left Leganes weighing alternative options as they look to reinforce their push for promotion to La Liga.

Dessers, who recently netted a hat-trick in the Scottish Cup, has struggled to cement a regular starting spot in Michael Beale’s lineup since November.

This lack of consistent game time may have heightened Dessers’ interest in exploring new opportunities, with a move to Spain offering the potential for a fresh challenge.

Interestingly, Leganes have long admired Dessers. Their pursuit dates back to the summer of 2021 when they attempted to secure his services.

However, Feyenoord swooped in with a last-minute offer, and Dessers opted for the Dutch giants instead. His time in Rotterdam proved fruitful, as he scored 20 goals and provided four assists, including a remarkable ten goals in the UEFA Europa Conference League, earning him the competition’s Golden Boot for the 2021/2022 season.
