West Bromwich Albion are in discussions to sign an out-of-favour Premier League striker for the remainder of the season after Super Eagles forward Josh Maja’s injury setback, Soccernet.football reports.

Maja is currently out with a calf injury as confirmed by the Baggies on January 14. After undergoing surgery, the Nigeria international is set to be relegated to the sidelines until mid April 2025.

Although West Brom have reportedly been on the hunt for striking reinforcement before Maja’s unfortunate injury, the 26-year-old’s imminent spell on the treatment table has injected some bit of urgency into their search.

As per reports from Express and Star, the Baggies have set their sights on Ipswich Town striker Ali Al Hamadi. The report claims that West Brom are looking to sign the Iraq international on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Al Hamadi played a significant role in Ipswich Town’s promotion to the English top-flight division, registering 14 appearances and making five goal contributions for the Tractor Boys during the 2023/2024 campaign.

This season however, the 22-year-old striker has been relegated to a background role by Ipswich boss Keiran McKenna, following the arrival of Manchester City academy graduate Liam Delap last summer.

Before his injury setback, Maja, who was in superb form, started in all of West Brom’s 26 matches this season. The Nigerian striker has registered 12 goals and 2 assists to place first in goal contributions for the Baggies.

West Brom will have to make do without their talisman as they battle to keep their place among the promotion play-offs contenders. It goes without saying that the Baggies will miss Maja’s massive contributions.
