Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly set their sights on Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who has been catching the eye with his performances for Lazio in Serie A this season, Soccernet.football reports.

The Seagulls are keen to bolster their midfield options as they push for European qualification in the Premier League.

Dele-Bashiru, a product of Manchester City’s renowned academy, joined Lazio last summer from Turkish side Hatayspor and has made an immediate impact. The 22-year-old has scored four goals this season, cementing his place as a vital part of Lazio’s midfield setup.

According to reports from La Lazio Siamo Noi, Brighton have already approached Lazio to inquire about Dele-Bashiru’s availability.

However, the Italian club has firmly rejected the Premier League side’s initial advances, acknowledging their intent to retain the dynamic midfielder.

Lazio are currently fourth in Serie A and vying for a Champions League spot, with Dele-Bashiru’s contributions deemed crucial to their ambitions.

The Nigerian international have continued to develop in Rome following his impressive spell in Turkey with Hatayspor. His ability to transition play and chip in with key goals has added a new dimension to Lazio’s midfield, making him indispensable to manager Marco Baroni’s plans.

For Brighton, signing a player of Dele-Bashiru’s calibre could provide the creative spark needed to enhance their chances of securing a top-seven finish.

The Seagulls, under head coach Fabian Hürzeler, have been lauded for their attacking style, but an injection of midfield power and precision could give them the edge in a competitive Premier League landscape.

It remains to be seen whether Brighton will return with an improved bid for the talented midfielder.

Dele-Bashiru is a Nigerian international with two goals in six appearances for the Super Eagles. Born in Germany and raised in England to Nigerian parents, he was eligible to represent all three nations.

The energetic midfielder, however, chose to play for Nigeria, making his Super Eagles debut in 2023.
