“It’s too late for us” – Man City star rules English champions out of Premier League title race

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva believes “it’s too late” for the Cityzens to re-enter the Premier League title conversation, following their absolutely shocking drop in form and unusually lengthy run of bad results this season, Soccernet.football reports.

Following a run of two wins from their last ten league games, the defending champions find themselves trailing leaders Liverpool by 14 points, with the Reds having a game in hand. Taking City’s poor run of form into account, Silva admitted that only a miracle could revive their chances.

“I would say [winning the title is] not impossible because in football there are no impossibles, but right now, Man City are completely out of the title race,” he told Sky Sports.

“There’s no question about that. It’s too late for us. People always say that you don’t win a league until January but you can lose it, and this season the reality is we’ve lost it.”

Manchester City, who were top of the Premier League in early November, have managed only eight points from their last 10 games. Only Leicester City and Southampton have fared worse during this period.

Historically, no team has overcome a points deficit greater than 13 to claim the title, a feat last achieved by Arsenal in the 1997/1998 season against Manchester United. With City currently sixth in the league, Silva emphasized that the team’s priority is climbing the table rather than chasing the title.

“Right now it’s about accepting the reality,” he added. “I’m not looking at Liverpool, we’re sixth or seventh in the league. I cannot be looking at Liverpool or Arsenal or whatever.

“I’m looking right now at the next game, try and win three points to be fifth, to be fourth and to be third.

“And then ten games from the end of the season you can start making a little bit of math to see where you can go.”
