Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu is waiting to discover the extent of his injury after picking up a knock at his club Blackburn Rovers, Footynaija reports.
The knock could potentially affect Alebiosu’s chances of making Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania.
The Blackburn Rovers right-back was forced off in the first half of Tuesday’s 2-1 Championship defeat to Stoke City, fueling concerns about his fitness ahead of Saturday’s meeting with West Ham United.
The 24-year-old had started Blackburn’s previous five Championship matches, playing the full 90 minutes in each, before his injury cut short his appearance against Stoke.
Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that the club may send the Nigerian for a scan after he arrived at the team’s meeting still struggling with the injury.
“He came into the team meeting limping pretty heavily. I think he’ll probably have a scan. I don’t know; let’s wait to see it,” Mowbray said, as quoted by Lancashire Telegraph.
The Rovers boss has not ruled out Alebiosu playing against West Ham but admitted that the scan results will determine whether he is fit enough to feature.
“I don’t want to speculate; there’s every chance he could be out there on Saturday. But if the scan shows something specifically, he probably won’t be,” he added.
A serious injury could also leave Alebiosu fighting to keep his place in Éric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad for the Tanzania double-header.
Nigeria trade tackles with the Taifa Stars over two legs next week in their bid to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
