Former Major League Soccer defender Chidozie Awaziem is heading back to Turkish football after completing a move to Konyaspor from French side Nantes, Footynaija reports.
The Turkish Süper Lig club confirmed the transfer on its official website, announcing that the Nigerian international has signed a two-year contract. Awaziem will wear the number 15 shirt as he begins a new chapter in his career.
The 29-year-old defender is no stranger to football in Turkey. He previously spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Alanyaspor from Portuguese club Boavista, where he quickly became one of the team’s most reliable defenders. His strong tackles, aerial ability and calm performances helped him earn regular playing time in the league.
Since leaving Alanyaspor, Awaziem has continued his journey across Europe, playing in different countries before returning to Nantes for a second spell. Nantes suffered relegation to Ligue 2 last season with Awaziem facing a possible salary cut if he had remained at the French club.
The experienced centre-back has also represented clubs in Portugal, Spain and Croatia, building a reputation as a dependable defender.
The move to Konyaspor gives the Super Eagles star another chance to shine in a league where he has already enjoyed success. The club hopes his experience and leadership will strengthen its defence ahead of the new Süper Lig season.
Konyaspor finished 9th in the 18-team Super Lig table last season.
