Sevilla’s difficult week took a dramatic turn both off and on the pitch, with Akor Adams playing a central role in helping the club steady itself after a troubling episode involving supporters, Footynaija reports.
The tension began after a damaging 1-0 defeat to Real Oviedo left Sevilla hovering just above the relegation zone. In the early hours following that loss, players were met by angry fans at the airport, where insults were hurled at the squad. The situation escalated further at the training ground, as a group of masked supporters blocked access and reportedly issued threats, forcing police to intervene and restore order.
It was against that backdrop that Sevilla faced Atletico Madrid, knowing both their form and their relationship with supporters had been tested. Adams responded in the best possible way, by delivering on the pitch.
The Nigerian striker calmly converted a 10th-minute penalty to give Sevilla an early lead, ending his three-game goal drought and setting the tone for a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Atletico equalised late in the first half through Javier Bonar, but Nemanja Gudelj restored Sevilla’s lead before the break, allowing the hosts to see out a vital win.
Adams led the line with composure and strength, linking play well and helping his side manage the game under pressure. His contribution proved crucial as Sevilla secured three important points in their fight to avoid relegation.
After the match, Adams reflected on how the team had responded to the difficult moments of the previous week.
“All the energy of the club, the fans, and the players transformed into a positive atmosphere for this match,” he said via El Sevillista. “We gave 100% and achieved our objective, which was the three points.”
He also made a point of recognising those supporters who stood by the team despite the unrest.
“The fans’ support has been incredible, it’s given us a lot of energy. We play for them and if we’re all like this, we’ll be happy every week,” he added.
On his goal, Adams highlighted the preparation behind it. “I had practiced it in training. I had the confidence of all my teammates. Everyone played a good game, Manu and Agoumé in midfield, Castrín at the back, and everyone else. We all achieved our goal.”
Despite the win, Sevilla remain only three points above the relegation zone with only seven La Liga matches left this season.
