Werder Bremen have been warned against rushing Victor Boniface back into competitive action following the Super Eagles striker’s recent return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Footynaija.com reports.
Boniface, initially expected to be out until the start of next season after undergoing surgery on his knee late last year, has recovered sooner than expected and is currently back to training individually ahead of an imminent return to action.
Speaking about the Nigeria international recently, Bremen manager Daniel Thioune even hinted at his potential availability to play bit-part roles for the Die Werderaner in the coming weeks as they look to finish the season strongly and avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
Reacting to news of Boniface’s potential return, Felix Agu, who also turns out for the Super Eagles could barely hide his delight. However, the left-back, having faced his own share of injury setbacks this season, also took time to emphasize that his compatriot would require some time to regain his rhythm.
What Felix Agu said

“I’m very happy to see him back here because I get along well with him. I think he still needs a little time to get back into his rhythm,” Agu told Diechstube in a recent interview.
“He may have only shown glimpses of it in matches, but you see it again and again in training. When he drops deep, turns, plays passes – with such timing, such vision! That’s simply an absolute quality!
“He wasn’t a key player in Leverkusen’s championship-winning team for nothing. If Victor can even come close to that level, then he can help us. The important thing is that he gets back to the fitness level he needed to be able to help us on the pitch for a while.”

Werder Bremen will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s narrow 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig when they square up against Koln at the RheinEnergieSTADION on Sunday, April 12. While Agu is expected to be available for selection, Boniface will have to keep supporting his teammates from the sidelines.
