Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards admitted that it’s been a really difficult week for Tolu Arokodare after the Super Eagles striker suffered racial discrimination online following last weekend’s Premier League loss to Crystal Palace, Footynaija.com reports.
Arokodare missed a penalty in that game as Wolves’ nightmare season continued with a 1-0 defeat to Palace, and some fans took to social media platform Instagram to register their dissatisfaction in the most extreme way possible.
The perpetrators targeted the Nigeria international with a racial slurs, prompting Wolverhampton Wanderers to release a statement offering support to their striker and condemning what they described as an abhorrent and unlawful behaviour.
In a recent update on how Arokodare has been faring following the incident, Edwards revealed that it’s not been an easy week for the striker. However, the club, his teammates and Wolves fans are doing their best to support him.

“It’s been a really difficult week for him. He was upset and angered by it, understandably so,” Edwards told the club’s official website.
“We’ve supported him, and I’ve had a few individual chats with him, we’ve spoken about it as a group as well, to make sure that we get around him and support him.
“Then he’s had overwhelming support from a lot of Wolves fans and other people reaching out which is really good.”

The situation is still under investigation with relevant authorities keeping close tabs amid a disturbingly growing trend of online discrimination targeting footballers across the English football landscape.
Wolves return to Premier League action on Friday, 27 February when they welcome Unai Emery’s high-flying Aston Villa to The Molineux Stadium. Their only PL win this season came on home turf at the turn of the year and they’ll be hoping for similar fortunes against The Villans.
