Nigeria’s senior men’s team, the Super Eagles, will return to action next month with an international friendly against the Jordan national football team, footynaija.com reports.
The match will be played in Amman during the March international window, with both football associations agreeing on the fixture as part of their preparation plans for the months ahead.
For Jordan, the game is an important step as they get ready for their first-ever appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Facing a strong African side like Nigeria is seen as a good test of their progress before the global tournament begins.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will use the friendly to regroup after the disappointment of missing out on automatic qualification through the African playoffs. Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to experiment with his squad, giving chances to new players while assessing the core of the team for future competitions.
There is also still uncertainty hanging over Nigeria’s World Cup hopes. The Super Eagles were beaten on penalties by the DR Congo national football team in the playoffs held in Morocco, but the story may not be over yet.
The Nigeria Football Federation later submitted a complaint to FIFA, claiming that DR Congo used ineligible players in the tie. A decision is expected soon, and if it goes Nigeria’s way, the Super Eagles could still be invited to the inter-confederation playoffs in Mexico.
Until then, the friendly against Jordan offers Chelle’s side a valuable chance to stay sharp, rebuild confidence and prepare for whatever lies ahead on the international stage.
