The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that the Super Eagles’ training camp for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will open on December 10 in Cairo as preparations intensify ahead of the tournament in Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.
Head coach Eric Chelle has named a 54-man provisional squad, including Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. NPFL stars such as Abdulrasheed Shehu and Chisom Orji are also included. A final 28-player list will be announced shortly.
However, Chelle’s plans face disruption from delayed club releases.
Ademola Lookman will only join camp on December 15 after Atalanta’s clash with Cagliari, ruling him out of the Egypt friendly on December 14.
Semi Ajayi may depart Hull City only after their match at Millwall on December 14, while Chidozie Awaziem will remain with Nantes until after facing Angers on December 12.
Paris FC have refused to release Moses Simon before December 14, meaning the winger will miss the friendly with Egypt. Premier League players – including Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, Tolu Arokodare, and Frank Onyeka – are also expected to report late due to domestic fixtures on December 13 and 14.
Nigeria will compete in Group C, alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. They open their campaign against Tanzania on December 23, followed by Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30. Having missed out on World Cup qualification, the Super Eagles travel to Morocco seeking a fourth AFCON title.
