Nigeria’s Super Eagles have ended their training boycott and resumed preparations for Thursday’s high-stakes 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa play-off semi-final against Gabon after resolving their bonus dispute with the authorities, Footynaija.com reports.
The squad skipped training on Tuesday in protest over unpaid allowances but returned to the pitch in Rabat on Wednesday evening after what sources described as “positive discussions” with team officials.
Captain William Troost-Ekong confirmed the resolution via his official X account, reassuring fans: “Issue resolved. We are together and, as before, focused on the games ahead.”
All 24 invited players, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Wilfred Ndidi, were expected to take part in the 5 p.m. training session as head coach Eric Chelle fine-tuned tactics for the showdown at the Moulay Hassan Stadium.
Nigeria’s clash with Gabon is one of two semi-finals in the CAF playoff series, with Cameroon facing DR Congo in the other fixture at the El-Barid Stadium.
Winners will progress to the final on November 16, which decides who advances to the inter-confederation play-offs for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
The quick resolution of the bonus row is seen as a major boost to team morale, with Ekong’s leadership praised for keeping the squad united. Training resumed in a lively atmosphere, as the players put the dispute behind them to focus on the task of taking Nigeria one step closer to football’s biggest stage.
