Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has admitted he’s enduring one of his toughest ever starts to a season but insists he remains mentally strong and focused on turning things around at Werder Bremen, Footynaija.com reports.
The 24-year-old Nigeria international joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer but is yet to find the back of the net after seven Bundesliga appearances, two of which have come as starts.
Despite this, Boniface believes his contribution to the team extends beyond goals and assists.

“If you watched the game against Union Berlin, which we won 1-0, I didn’t score or assist but you’ll have seen what I bring to the team,” Boniface said in quotes revealed by Soccer Laduma.
“When you don’t score, people want to talk, but trust me, they don’t know anything about me. I’ve seen things, but I’m strong — those things don’t really affect me.”

Boniface took the German top flight by storm during his debut season with Leverkusen, registering 30 goal contributions (21G, 9A) and helping Xabi Alonso’s men clinch the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles.
Injuries limited his impact during his second season at the Bay Arena but he still finished as Leverkusen’s second-highest goalscorer despite missing up to 20 games.
Now at Bremen, the Super Eagles forward admits he’s facing a different kind of test after enduring what he described as his worst start to a season in the German top flight.

“This is probably the worst start I’ve had since coming to Germany because I’ve played four, five games with no goals. My first season was great, but last season I missed around 20 games and was still Leverkusen’s second-highest goalscorer. So I’m trying to understand what’s really a ‘bad season’.”
While critics have questioned his quality amid the ongoing goal drought, Boniface insists he won’t be drawn into social media debates or stat-based judgments.

“Most people don’t even watch games — they just check LiveScore and say, ‘This guy didn’t score,’. But if you know me, you know I have no problem. I’m improving every day.”
Boniface’s confidence and work ethic have never been in doubt, and the Super Eagles striker will now be eager to rediscover the electric form that defined his debut season at Leverkusen as he looks to start firing for Die Grun-Weißen.
