Kelechi Iheanacho made an unforgettable start to life at Celtic, coming off the bench to score a last-gasp winner in a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles striker, who joined the Scottish champions last month, was handed his debut by Brendan Rodgers in the second half and wasted little time making his mark.

Deep into stoppage time, with the game tied at 1-1, referee John Beaton awarded Celtic a penalty. Iheanacho showed excellent composure, sending Max Stryjek the wrong way in the 95th minute to secure all three points and lift Celtic back to the top of the Premiership on goal difference.

It was a remarkable turnaround for the 28-year-old, who had endured a frustrating year since leaving Leicester City.

A short spell at Sevilla and a loan to Middlesbrough brought little joy, and his contract in Spain was terminated last month.

Rodgers, who previously managed Iheanacho at Leicester, moved swiftly to bring him to Glasgow, a decision already paying dividends.

Celtic had earlier taken the lead when Daizen Maeda converted Marcelo Saracchi’s cross in the 57th minute, but Kilmarnock hit back through 20-year-old David Watson’s equaliser with just seven minutes left. Rodgers then introduced Iheanacho on 70 minutes, and the forward delivered in the most dramatic fashion.

The winner is Iheanacho’s first goal since March, ending a six-month drought and instantly turning him into a hero for the Celtic faithful.
