Ademola Lookman have landed in uncertain waters after Inter Milan pulled out of negotiations with Atalanta over a summer transfer, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigerian forward had been tipped for a high-profile switch to the San Siro, with Inter reportedly reaching an agreement on personal terms weeks ago.

However, the Serie A giants could not convince Atalanta to lower their €50 million asking price, despite tabling a €45m bid and even exploring a swap deal involving Nicola Zalewski.

Lookman, who starred in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last year, was understood to be keen on the move. The 27-year-old lodged a transfer request and even removed references to Atalanta from his social media accounts. Reports in Italy suggest he has not joined training sessions for over a week, adding to speculation that his relationship with the club has soured.

Inter’s board, headed by president Giuseppe Marotta, has now decided to end the pursuit and shift focus elsewhere, with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku among the names being considered. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Lookman’s representatives will be informed of the Nerazzurri’s decision imminently.

Lookman will now consider returning to Atalanta a d possibly mend fences ahead of the new Serie A campaign.

However, the Nigerian forward could still be on the move should a club abroad seal a deal with Atalanta.

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with a move for the Super Eagles attacker.
