Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has reportedly put any potential summer transfer on hold as he focuses on acquiring French citizenship, Footynaija.com reports.

Simon, who captained Nigeria during last month’s Unity Cup final, is in the midst of the naturalisation process and is understood to be prioritising his stay in France to avoid complications with his application.

According to reports from RMC Sport via Maxifoot, French agent Bruno Satin confirmed that the 29-year-old “absolutely wants to stay in France” while the process is ongoing.

Simon, who joined FC Nantes on loan from Levante in 2019 before sealing a permanent deal the following year, has been a standout performer for the Canaries. In six seasons at the club, he has scored 37 goals and registered 42 assists in 201 appearances across all competitions.

While Premier League side Everton have expressed interest in the Nigeria international, a move outside France now appears unlikely. Simon’s departure from French soil could negatively impact his bid for EU residency.

With his contract at Nantes running until June 2026, the winger is expected to either remain with the club or secure a move within Ligue 1.

Newly promoted Paris FC and European hopefuls Rennes are among the clubs monitoring his situation after a strong season.

Simon’s desire to gain EU citizenship could prove pivotal to the next stage of his career —potentially opening the door to more seamless transfers within Europe in the future.
