Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin has swapped Galatasaray for Benfica, starting a new chapter in Europe after two seasons in Turkey, Footynaija.com reports.
Benfica have handed Demehin a contract until 2029, bringing an end to her time at Galatasaray after she joined the Turkish club from Stade de Reims in 2024.
The move gives the 24-year-old another chance to test herself at a club with a strong record in women’s football, while also keeping her in European competition. But Demehin did not make the decision alone.

Ucheibe helped Demehin choose Benfica
The Super Falcons defender revealed that she spoke with Ucheibe while both players were with the national team before agreeing to join Benfica.
Ucheibe had spent six seasons with the Portuguese club before leaving earlier this summer. She made 179 appearances for Benfica and won several domestic trophies during her time there.
Demehin said that experience gave her a useful picture of what awaited her.
“Before I came here, I spoke to her during the national team camp. She told me many good things about the club,” Demehin said, according to Benfica’s official website.
That conversation helped strengthen her decision to make the move.
Demehin joins Flourish Sabastine, another Nigerian teammate, who also signed for the Portuguese side on a deal until 2029. The defender arrives after two seasons at Galatasaray, where she became an important part of the team and gained further experience in European football.
She has also established herself with the Super Falcons, featuring at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games before helping Nigeria win the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
