Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has been awarded the Jupiler Pro League Golden Boot — thanks to a rarely-used rule that separates tied top scorers by their away goals tally, footynaija.com reports.

The Racing Genk forward ended the season with 21 league goals, the same as Sint-Truiden’s Adriano Bertaccini.

However, with no further goals in the final rounds to edge ahead, the Belgian top flight resorted to a little-known tiebreaker to determine the official top scorer.

Arokodare was crowned winner after it was revealed he had scored more goals away from home — 11 in the regular season, plus two more in the playoffs — giving him the edge over Bertaccini, who netted just seven away goals and only one more during the relegation playoffs.

The 24-year-old Nigerian striker had a standout campaign, registering 21 goals and six assists in 40 appearances. While Genk’s title push fell short during the playoffs, Arokodare’s contributions were instrumental in keeping them competitive throughout the season.

His away goals came against OH Leuven, Beerschot VA (twice), Cercle Brugge, Gent, Sint-Truiden, Antwerp (twice), Westerlo, Standard Liège, and Charleroi in the regular season. He struck again versus Antwerp and Gent in the Championship playoffs.

Bertaccini, despite playing fewer matches (33), also enjoyed a strong season with Sint-Truiden. But in the end, it was Arokodare’s ability to deliver on the road that made the difference.
