Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has revealed that he would be “glad” to continue his career with Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers despite rumours of his imminent departure, Footynaija.com reports.
Balogun’s contract at Ibrox has entered into its final months with the Nigerian defender’s current terms set to expire in June. At 36 years old, the former Brighton and Hove Albion man can reasonably be considered as a player in the twilight of his career.
While the veteran center-back has managed to remain in the picture and contribute on occasion for Rangers, nagging injuries have limited his involvement to just 803 minutes this season with only nine starts in 16 league appearances.

Balogun is currently facing another spell on the sidelines after fracturing his cheekbone in Rangers’ Europa League defeat to Athletic Club. He could potentially miss the rest of the season as he is not expected to return until mid May.
Recently, numerous reports have suggested that the game in Bilbao will be the Germany-born Nigerian defender’s last for Rangers. However, in an interview with Rangers Review, Balogun expressed his desire to continue at Ibrox beyond this season.
“I’ve wanted that for ten years, to be a Rangers player, since I stepped into the building,” the Nigeria international said.
“Everyone knows how much I love this club, I embrace everything that it stands for. I’ve really taken it to heart, so if I can stay for another season, I’ll be glad.”
While Balogun is well advanced in age and will probably be unable to contribute as significantly as he used to, his experience could be a huge boost in that Rangers dressing as they seek to usurp Celtic’s dominance next season.
