Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu is facing several months on the sidelines after Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray confirmed that the Nigerian will require surgery following a serious knee injury, Footynaija.com reports.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury during Blackburn’s Championship encounter against Stoke City at Ewood Park on Tuesday, November 3, and was forced off in the 41st minute.
A scan carried out the following day revealed the extent of the problem, with the defender now expected to undergo an operation that could keep him out of action for three to four months or potentially longer.
Speaking after Blackburn’s 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday, Mowbray expressed his disappointment at the development and provided an update on the Nigerian’s condition.

“He had a scan on Wednesday. It’s not good news for him obviously,” the Blackburn manager said, as quoted by Lancashire Telegraph.
“He looks like he’s going to have an operation which is three or four months, maybe a touch longer. We’re all disappointed.”
The Blackburn boss also highlighted the qualities the Nigerian brings to his side, particularly his attacking contributions and athleticism from the right-back position.

“Ryan’s a real positive for the team. The attacking threat from right back with the legs and the athleticism he brings.”
Alebiosu’s injury represents a significant setback for both the defender and Blackburn, having established himself as an important option in their defensive setup.
The former Arsenal academy prospect will now focus on his recovery, with the lengthy absence also affecting his chances of any involvement with the Super Eagles later this month.
Blackburn will also have to find a way to cope without the Nigerian’s attacking threat from the right flank while he recovers from this latest setback.
