Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis has expressed hope that Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will recover quickly after suffering an injury during the club’s UEFA Conference League victory over KuPS Kuopio, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian forward had to exit the field of play just minutes into Trabzonspor’s 4-2 win over the Finnish side on Thursday, raising doubts over his availability for Monday’s Turkish Super Lig clash against Besiktas.
Onuachu had made an immediate impact before his early withdrawal, opening the scoring in the third minute with a well-taken finish. However, the striker was unable to continue after picking up an injury inside the opening ten minutes.
Addressing the situation, Reis expressed disappointment over the setback but remained hopeful that the 31-year-old would not spend too long on the sidelines.

“Specifically speaking, Onuachu was very unlucky. He’s a player who works very well in training,” Reis said, as quoted by 24 Saat.
“He started the match well and scored a nice goal. It’s a very unfortunate injury. I hope he’ll be back soon.
“Injuries aren’t an excuse for us, we can’t make excuses. Injuries are opportunities for other players. I hope it won’t last too long and he’ll rejoin us soon.”

Onuachu’s situation will now be closely monitored ahead of the visit of Besiktas, with Trabzonspor hoping to have their in-form striker available for the important league encounter.
The former Southampton forward has been an important attacking option for the Turkish side, making his fitness a key concern as Reis prepares his squad for Monday’s fixture.
For now, the manager’s comments offer hope rather than confirmation of a return date, leaving Onuachu’s availability for the Besiktas game uncertain as Trabzonspor await further clarity on the extent of his injury.
