Tolu Arokodare has found more than a new club at Ajax, with the Super Eagles striker enjoying the support of his teammates, the Dutch public and the fans as he begins a new chapter in Amsterdam after a difficult end to his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Footynaija.com reports.
The 25-year-old joined Ajax on a season-long loan in July, with the Dutch club holding an option to sign him permanently. The move came after a frustrating spell at Wolves, where he scored six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions but started only one of the club’s final 10 matches last season.
His return to Dutch football has offered a different setting in which to show his qualities. Arokodare previously played for Genk in Belgium, where he finished as the Belgian Pro League’s top scorer in the 2024/25 season before moving to England.
At Ajax, he has made an encouraging start in front of goal. He scored his seventh goal since joining the club in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen, taking his tally to four league goals and three in the UEFA Conference League.
Arokodare praises Ajax fans and teammates
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, the Nigerian described his experience in the Netherlands as a positive one, pointing to the people around him and the reception he has received since joining the club.
“It’s been pretty good. It’s been lovely, it’s been amazing,” Arokodare said. “The Dutch people have been amazing so far. My teammates have been great. The club has been outstanding. I love it. I love the people. I love the style of football. I love the fans so much.”
He also explained how that support reaches beyond matchdays, with messages from fans adding to the welcome he has received.
“They’re very, very supportive. They show me so much love on the pitch and outside the pitch, like in my messages, in my DMs and everything I see, and I appreciate the love. So it’s been amazing.”
The striker’s comments offer a glimpse of how well he has settled into life in Amsterdam. His goals have given him a positive start, but the warmth he describes suggests that his experience at Ajax has also been shaped by the people around him.
Ajax finished fifth in the Eredivisie last season, below their usual title-challenging standards, and the Nigerian says the aim is to compete for every trophy available.
“We’re going to try to win everything that’s there to win, everything that we can win, every competition we’re playing in and participating in,” he said.
“That’s the plan, that’s the aim, that’s the point of our season. We’re Ajax, so we always want to be the best, be number one.”
