Adedire Mebude provided two assists for Çaykur Rizespor, but his creative display was not enough to prevent a painful 4-3 home defeat to Trabzonspor in a seven-goal Turkish Süper Lig thriller, Footynaija reports.
Mebude was one of Rizespor’s brightest performers on Monday, helping the hosts establish a commanding first-half advantage before Trabzonspor produced a remarkable second-half comeback to claim all three points.
The winger played a key role in opening up the visitors’ defence, setting up two goals as Rizespor took control of the contest. His deliveries and attacking movement caused problems for Trabzonspor, who struggled to contain the hosts during the opening period.
However, the game changed dramatically after the break. Trabzonspor found their rhythm, increased the pressure and turned a two-goal deficit into a 4-3 victory through a devastating eight-minute spell.
Mebude was withdrawn in the 70th minute, with Rizespor seeking fresh attacking options as the visitors mounted their comeback.
Ibrahim Olawoyin also started for Rizespor, operating in an advanced midfield role in the hosts’ 4-1-4-1 formation. The Nigerian midfielder completed the full 90 minutes and recorded one shot on target.
Olawoyin helped Rizespor control proceedings in the first half, but the hosts struggled to maintain their grip on midfield as Trabzonspor took charge after the interval.
Chibuike Nwaiwu, meanwhile, experienced contrasting fortunes with the winning side. The Nigerian defender started at centre-back and endured a difficult opening period as Rizespor striker Gennaro Borrelli scored twice to put the hosts in a strong position.
Nwaiwu stayed on the pitch as Trabzonspor recovered, helping the visitors improve their defensive organisation while their attackers completed the turnaround.
Olawoyin and Nwaiwu have featured for Nigeria while Mebude, 22, is waiting for his first Super Eagles call-up having played for Scotland youth teams.
