Super Eagles forward Yira Sor has been ruled out of Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after suffering a hamstring injury in Amedspor’s 2-1 comeback win over Trabzonspor, Footynaija.com reports.
Amedspor confirmed via their official X handle that MRI scans revealed a Grade 2B muscle injury approximately 11cm in length in Sor’s left biceps femoris muscle.
The Turkish club expects the 26-year-old to spend around six weeks undergoing treatment and rehabilitation, ruling him out of Nigeria’s upcoming qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Sor sustained the injury shortly after scoring Amedspor’s equaliser against Trabzonspor on Sunday. The Nigerian reacted quickest after Andre Onana saved Mbaye Diagne’s penalty in first-half stoppage time, smashing the rebound into the net to cancel out Mohamed Salah’s early opener.
Sor had to leave the pitch five minutes into the second half after picking up the injury, with fellow Nigerian forward Gift Orban replacing him. Orban would later complete Amedspor’s comeback by scoring the decisive 90th-minute goal to hand the newly promoted side a memorable victory.
The injury is a frustrating setback for Sor, who had made an encouraging start to his first season in the Turkish Super Lig following his move from Belgian club Genk.

This setback also comes at an unfortunate time for the Nigeria international, who made his Super Eagles debut earlier this year in a 2-2 friendly draw against Jordan.
He was expected to be in contention for his first competitive appearance for Nigeria, but the six-week recovery timeline means he will miss the opening AFCON qualifying fixtures.
Nigeria are scheduled to face Madagascar on September 23 before taking on Guinea-Bissau four days later as the Super Eagles begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.
