Manchester United have decided to send Chido Obi out on loan for the 2026/27 season, with the Nigerian-eligible striker set to join Dutch side Willem II after the two clubs reached an agreement over a temporary move, Footynaija.com reports.
The decision comes as United continue to manage Obi’s development after the teenager made the move to Old Trafford from Arsenal in 2024. Born in Denmark to a Nigerian father and Danish mother, the striker remains eligible to represent Nigeria at international level.
Obi developed through Arsenal’s academy and became one of the most talked-about young forwards in English youth football before joining United. He has since continued his development with the club’s youth sides and has also trained with the senior squad.

The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for United during the 2025/26 season and has been regarded as one of the promising young attackers within the club’s system. A move to the Netherlands will now give him the chance to gain regular senior football away from Old Trafford.
Obi set for Willem II loan
As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the move to Willem II has been agreed, with the Dutch club set to take Obi on a season-long loan, according to a report confirming the deal.
Manchester United have authorised the striker’s medical, which is scheduled to take place today before the transfer can be completed.
There will be no option for Willem II to make the move permanent. Obi will therefore return to Manchester United at the end of the 2026/27 campaign after spending the season with the Dutch side.
The decision gives the teenager an opportunity to play more regularly at senior level and continue his development in the Netherlands, where Willem II will expect him to contribute goals and compete for a place in their attack.
