Galatasaray have decided against letting Victor Osimhen leave the club this summer despite the Super Eagles forward attracting interest from Europe’s top clubs, Footynaija reports.
The Turkish giants were initially open to offers for the Nigerian and would have reluctantly sanctioned a move if their €150 million demand was met. However, that stance has changed as Galatasaray decided that Osimhen will remain in Istanbul for the new season, according to BeinSports.
The Turkish champions have reportedly rejected several huge offers because they believe losing Osimhen would weaken their chances of competing in Europe. After helping Galatasaray win a fourth straight Süper Lig title and reach the Champions League Round of 16, the 27-year-old has become the main player in their plans.
Money has not changed the club’s position. Atlético Madrid reportedly made an offer worth up to €125 million, while Manchester United put forward around €100 million. Arsenal also tried a different deal, offering Viktor Gyökeres plus €30 million. Tottenham have also seen a reported €60 million bid rejected.
Galatasaray have another reason to feel confident about keeping Osimhen. His contract runs until June 2029 and does not contain a release clause. That leaves the club in control of his future.
The former Napoli forward is also expected to be given a bigger role at the club following Mauro Icardi’s departure. Galatasaray plan to hand Osimhen the No. 9 shirt and captain’s armband, showing how important he has become to the team.
With major clubs unable to change Galatasaray’s mind, Osimhen now looks set to lead the Turkish champions into another Champions League campaign.
