Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has provided an injury update on Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi after the Nigerian helped the newly promoted side secure a stunning 2-0 victory over Manchester United on the opening day of the Premier League season, Footynaija.com reports.
Ajayi marked his return to England’s top flight in style on Saturday, opening the scoring for Hull in the 17th minute before producing a solid defensive display against Michael Carrick’s side. The 31-year-old reacted quickest after Senne Lammens had saved Oli McBurnie’s effort against the post, tapping home from close range to give Hull a dream start at the MKM Stadium.
However, Ajayi’s afternoon ended earlier than planned when he was replaced in the 64th minute, with Jakirovic later revealing that the Nigeria international had complained of a hamstring problem.

“It was not the plan. We made four substitutions in the defensive line. I don’t know, after medical check I will know much more,” Jakirovic said after the game.
“Ajayi was complaining about his hamstring and Nobel on adductor. Coyle always with his ankles. That is normal.
“Maybe we will bring some new players again. We have ten days to go, we will see. It depends on their problems.”

Ajayi had otherwise enjoyed a memorable afternoon, becoming the first Hull player to score a Premier League goal against Manchester United since Matty Fryatt in 2014.
His goal also helped Hull hand United an unwanted piece of history, ending their unbeaten record in Premier League opening-day fixtures against newly promoted teams.
The Super Eagles defender will now await the results of his medical examination as Hull hope his hamstring issue is not serious enough to keep him sidelined for their upcoming fixtures.
