Super Eagles target Michael Kayode has signed a new long term contract with Brentford after an outstanding campaign that also saw him shortlisted for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, Footynaija.com reports.
The Premier League club confirmed on its official website that the 21 year old right back has extended his stay until the summer of 2032, with Brentford holding the option to keep him for an additional year. The new deal comes after Kayode established himself as one of the club’s most consistent performers during the 2025/26 season.
The contract is another boost for the defender, who continues to attract attention in Nigeria. Eric Chelle is known to admire the former Italy youth international, who remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite featuring for Italy at age grade level.
His impressive rise in England has only strengthened calls for Nigeria to pursue him ahead of future international assignments.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said the new contract reflected the defender’s progress over the past year.
“Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive.”
The Brentford boss also praised Kayode’s attitude away from the pitch, insisting the club had no doubts about rewarding him with a fresh deal.
“Michael’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach. We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.”
Kayode joined Brentford from Fiorentina in January 2025 before the move was made permanent later that year. He has since made 56 appearances in all competitions, missing just one Premier League match last season while helping the Bees secure a ninth place finish. The attacking full back also scored his first goal for the club against Wolves and played a key role throughout the campaign.
Kayode’s latest achievement is another boost for Nigeria, with the Super Eagles still hoping he will choose to represent the country
