The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ordered Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu and his technical team to leave their positions with immediate effect, Footynaija reports.
The decision came after the NFF Executive Committee reviewed Nigeria’s performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The main concern was the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Nigeria had to enter the World Cup playoffs after missing out on an automatic place at WAFCON. Their hopes then ended with a 2-1 defeat by South Africa.
The NFF confirmed the decision in a post on X.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the federation wrote.
The Falcons’ WAFCON campaign had started badly. They lost to Malawi, who were playing at the tournament for the first time and later reached the final.
Nigeria recovered to reach the knockout stage, but a 1-0 quarter-final defeat by Cameroon ended their title defence.
The loss also meant Nigeria missed the chance to secure a direct route to the 2027 World Cup.
The NFF must now find a new coaching team for Africa’s most successful women’s sides. The next task will be to rebuild confidence and prepare the Falcons for future competitions, including the Olympics.
