Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has expressed his determination to rediscover his best form as he continues his recovery from the knee injury that derailed his progress over the past year, Footynaija.com reports.
Boniface endured a frustrating campaign after persistent knee problems disrupted what had promised to be another productive season in Germany. His failed transfers to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr and Serie A giants AC Milan were followed by a difficult loan spell at Werder Bremen, where injury setbacks and fitness concerns limited his impact.
Now back at Bayer Leverkusen following the end of his loan spell, the 25-year-old has already begun preparations for the new season, reporting to the club’s training base weeks before the official start of pre-season as he steps up his rehabilitation.
Speaking about his recovery, Boniface admitted he is gradually regaining confidence after undergoing knee surgery earlier this year.

“The knee problems are no longer on my mind when I’m on the pitch. That’s a very good feeling,” Boniface said, as quoted by BILD. “I’m working on getting back into very good form step by step.”
The Nigeria international has been working under Bayer Leverkusen’s medical staff, combining intensive gym sessions with daily ball work as he targets a full return to peak condition ahead of the new campaign.
Boniface remains under contract with the Bundesliga club until 2028, although his long-term future is expected to depend largely on his performances once he is fully fit again.
Before his injury troubles, the former Union Saint-Gilloise forward established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most feared attackers, registering 21 goals and nine assists in 34 appearances during his debut season to inspire Bayer Leverkusen to a historic Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double.
