Nigeria U20 midfielder Daniel Daga has been cleared to return to action after Molde FK confirmed he is available for selection following his successful appeal in a sexual assault case, Footynaija.com reports.

The Norwegian club announced on its official website that the Frostating Court of Appeal unanimously acquitted the 19 year old. While the verdict is not yet final, Molde said it has reviewed the outcome and decided Daga can once again be part of the first team.

The decision brings an end to months of uncertainty for one of Nigeria’s brightest young midfielders, who had been sidelined after legal proceedings began earlier this year.

In its statement, Molde said the appeal court’s ruling had influenced the club’s position on the player.

“Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Based on the verdict, Molde FK considers that Daniel will once again be available for play, even though the verdict is not yet final.”

Chief Executive Officer Vegard Storvik described the period as difficult for everyone connected to the case and said the club would continue to approach the matter with respect.

“We have today received information about the Court of Appeal’s ruling. This has been a demanding period for everyone involved, and we want to approach it with respect and consideration for everyone who has been affected,” Storvik said.

Molde added that it would not comment further on the case out of consideration for those involved.

Daga joined the Norwegian side from Enyimba and has also represented Nigeria at U20 level. The midfielder is regarded as one of the country’s top young prospects and is now set to resume his career with Molde following the club’s decision.
