Swiss Super League giants FC Basel have announced the signing of Nigeria-eligible striker Kazeem Olaigbe on a season-long loan from Turkish Super League outfit Trabzonspor, Footynaija.com reports.
Olaigbe’s move to the Rhine Knee comes as a result of the Belgian-Nigerian striker becoming surplus to requirements at Trabzonspor, a club he joined in the summer of 2025 from French Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Last season, he featured 22 times for the Black Sea Storm across games in the Super Lig, Turkish Cup and Super Cup, producing one goal and five assists. However, he finished the campaign on loan at Konyaspor where he made 15 appearances.
Reacting after completing move to FC Basel, Olaigbe expressed his excitement at joining the Swiss giants and shared his ambitions for the campaign.

“FC Basel is a big club with a long tradition of developing young players,” he said in quotes revealed by the club’s official website.
“With my technique and creativity, I want to help the team with assists and goals. I’m looking forward to playing at St. Jakob-Park and hope to bring joy to the fans with my performances.”
Basel’s technical director Andreas Hermann also shared his thoughts regarding the move; “Kazeem will enrich our attacking play with his pace, his strengths in one-on-one situations, and his versatility.
“We see him as a player with enormous quality and a lot of potential. His career hasn’t progressed as hoped recently, but we are convinced that he will find the best conditions with us to get back on track.”
All associated with FC Basel will be hoping that Olaigbe’s arrival can contribute significantly in returning the 21-time Super League champions to the pinnacle of Swiss football.
Born in Brussels, Olaigbe has represented Belgium at U15, U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels. Nevertheless, the former Southampton man remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria through his parental heritage.
