Eric Chelle has resisted the temptation to get carried away by a promising stretch of results for the Super Eagles, insisting the team must keep pushing on the smallest margins if they are to translate good performances into trophies, Footynaija.com reports.
Nigeria have been in fine form across their recent fixtures. Just days after winning the Unity Cup in London, the Super Eagles travelled to Warsaw and held World Cup-bound Poland to a 2-2 draw, with Terem Moffi opening the scoring and Paul Onuachu converting a second-half penalty before a late Wiśniewski strike forced a share of the spoils.
The performances have drawn praise, particularly given that Chelle had travelled without Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina, all unavailable for the Poland fixture. For a squad still rebuilding after missing the 2026 World Cup, the results carry genuine encouragement.
The Malian football manager, however, is not ready to settle. Speaking to the Super Eagles media team, the coach explained the thinking behind his squad selections and the standard he continues to demand.
“We have analysed our performances over the past year and have tried to bring in players who can help the team grow,” he said.
He then turned his attention to what must improve.
“We need to improve because, for me and for everyone, it is often the smallest details that make the difference between being the best team and winning a trophy,” Chelle added.
Nigeria face World Cup-bound Portugal on June 10 in what will be Portugal’s farewell fixture before travelling to the United States. The game gives Eric Chelle’s players one more chance to prove the recent performances are a trend rather than a coincidence.
