Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has insisted that there’s plenty of room for improvement despite his side’s 2-1 victory over the Lionesses of Senegal on Friday, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Falcons hosted their fellow West Africans in a friendly encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
Madugu’s ladies asserted their dominance from the outset, pinning Senegal deep in their own half and creating a host of chances through Francisca Ordega, Funmilayo Ijamilusi and Asisat Oshoala.
Their pressure eventually paid off when Oshoala converted a penalty after a handball in the Senegal box, before Toni Payne doubled the advantage before halftime, punishing slack defending from a corner with a composed low finish.
Following the win, Justin Madugu acknowledged there is still room for improvement, stressing that the main aim was to assess new players and strengthen the squad depth ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

“It’s a good result, and naturally, when you play any game, you always want to win,” Madugu told official54fx.
“This is a preparatory game, and the aim is to assess our readiness, test the strategies we want to execute in the competition, and give players the opportunity to showcase what they can do to provide us with more options.
“These are the matches we use to identify which players are fully ready for the WAFCON. It was not a bad game for us, but as you know, there is always room for improvement.
“Yes, we did well, but we know there is still a lot of work to be done.”
The Super Falcons will take on the Lionesses again in a rematch on Monday, June 8 at the same venue and they’ll be looking to make it back-to-back wins.
