Chelsea are back in the race for Victor Osimhen as the club pushes to solve its long-standing striker problem before the start of next season, Footynaija reports.
Reports in Turkey claim representatives of the Nigeria international are due in Istanbul for fresh discussions over the forward’s future after another outstanding campaign with Galatasaray.
The 27-year-old was one of the driving forces behind the club’s Super Lig title success and also helped them reach the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds.
Osimhen finished the season with 22 goals and eight assists in all competitions. His displays against top opposition in both Turkey and Europe have attracted interest from several clubs, including Barcelona and Chelsea.
The Blues are now looking to rebuild after a disastrous Premier League season that ended with a 10th-place finish and no European qualification. Chelsea managed only 58 league goals during the campaign, leading the club’s hierarchy to prioritise the signing of a proven goalscorer this summer.
New manager Xabi Alonso is believed to be a strong admirer of Osimhen’s aggressive playing style, movement behind defenders and ability to lead the press from the front. Chelsea see the former Napoli striker as a player capable of transforming their attack immediately.
However, any move is expected to be expensive. Galatasaray reportedly want more than €100 million for the striker, while Osimhen’s salary demands could also become a major obstacle in negotiations. Chelsea are therefore exploring performance-based payment structures to make a potential deal possible.
Galatasaray still hope to keep the Super Eagles star, who has become hugely popular with supporters in Istanbul. But with Europe’s biggest clubs circling again, there is increasing belief that this summer could finally bring another major move in Osimhen’s career.
