Former Senegal and Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne believes only Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is capable of breaking his longstanding goal-scoring record in the Turkish Super Lig, Footynaija.com reports.
Diagne remains the highest-scoring foreign player in a single Super Lig campaign after producing a remarkable 30-goal haul during the 2018/2019 season across spells with Kasımpasa and Galatasaray.
The former Senegal striker enjoyed explosive form during the first half of that campaign, scoring 20 goals in just 17 league appearances for Kasımpasa before sealing a winter move to Galatasaray, where he added another 10 goals in 12 matches to set a record that still stands today.

Despite several prolific forwards gracing the Turkish top flight in recent years, including Mauro Icardi, Alexander Sørloth, Enner Valencia, Paul Onuachu and Osimhen himself, none have managed to surpass Diagne’s tally.
Reflecting on the achievement recently, Diagne admitted he still takes great pride in holding onto the record, while also naming Osimhen as the only striker he would be comfortable seeing take it away from him.

“I’m happy, very happy. I’ve scored a lot of goals,” Diagne said, per quotes revealed by Vatan. “I’m also happy to be the top scorer here.
“Nobody has broken my goal record in the Super Lig. They probably won’t be able to. I could only accept it if my friend Osimhen broke it, but it’s impossible for anyone else to break it.”

Osimhen came quite close to matching Diagne’s record during his debut campaign in the Super Lig, as he notched 26 league goals to help Galatasaray win their 25th Turkish top flight crown.
This season though, he hasn’t been quite as prolific due to multiple injury setbacks. Nevertheless, the Nigerian hitman has played a pivotal role for Galatasaray, netting 15 times in 22 outings to ensure a successful title defense for the Istanbul giants.
