Former Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has been impressed by compatriot Emmanuel Fernandez’s debut campaign at Rangers, Footynaija.com reports.
Fernandez has become something of a sensation after enjoying a great first season at the Ibrox Stadium, with his performances already attracting interest from the Premier League where Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham United are reportedly interested in a move this summer.
Speaking at an interview recently, Dessers, who was still on the books of Rangers at the time of Fernanadez’s arrival, expressed delight over the defender’s progress, admitting that his quality was evident from the very beginning.

“In terms of quality, there’s a good base in the current Rangers squad. We could all see his quality when he started training with us,” the Panathinaikos striker said, per Rangers Review.
“He had a difficult start, but now he’s showing his quality. Like I said, we all saw it from the first day he walked into the club. For sure, but we also had to tell him that things at Rangers don’t always come easy even if you’re a good player.
“Now, you can see he took that, made incredible progress, and now he’s a Nigerian International as well, and that’s nice to see. I also like Nico [Raskin], and Tochi [Chukwuani] as well. If they can build on these guys, they’re not very far off from the league title.”

Cyriel Dessers enjoyed a relatively prolific two-year stint at Rangers, bagging a total of 52 goals in 116 appearances across all competitions before leaving for the Greece Super League last summer.
Meanwhile, Fernandez’s career at Rangers has only just begun. Although there are ongoing speculations regarding a potential move away this summer, it’s currently more likely that the Nigeria international will be at Ibrox next season.
