Nigeria’s pursuit of dual-national talent has taken a fresh turn, with the Nigeria Football Federation now focusing on Newcastle United forward William Osula, Footynaija reports.
The federation had previously monitored the situations of three Nigeria descent; Patrick Dorgu, Philip Billing and Isabella Obaze, but all three are now tied to Denmark after appearing in competitive senior fixtures. That has forced a rethink in strategy, with attention shifting towards players who remain eligible to switch allegiance.
Osula fits that profile. The 22-year-old forward, currently with Newcastle United, has been contacted through his representatives, according to Danish outlet Tipsbladet.

Nigeria’s interest is driven by the fact that, despite his involvement at youth level, he has not yet made a competitive senior appearance for Denmark national team. Although he featured for Denmark’s Under-21 side in a European Championship qualifier in 2023, that appearance does not permanently tie him to the Scandinavian nation.

He has since been named in senior squads but remained an unused substitute during World Cup qualifying fixtures, leaving the door open for a potential international switch.
Nigeria’s renewed push also reflects Osula’s recent form. The forward has impressed in the Premier League, scoring three goals in his last four appearances, including a decisive strike against Manchester United. Across his Under-21 international career, he has registered eight goals in fifteen outings.

However, the challenge facing Nigeria is far from straightforward. Denmark already boast attacking options such as Rasmus Hojlund, yet competition for places in Nigeria’s squad may be even more intense. The Super Eagles’ forward line includes high-profile names like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Paul Onuachu.
Osula’s versatility could strengthen Nigeria’s case. Comfortable both as a central striker and in wide attacking roles, he offers tactical flexibility that may appeal to the national team’s coaching staff.
The coming weeks could prove decisive, particularly with international fixtures approaching. Nigeria will hope their proactive approach pays off, as they attempt to secure a player who remains one of the few realistic dual-national prospects still available after recent setbacks.
