United States winger Timothy Weah has thrown his support behind Nigeria’s Tochukwu Nnadi to step into the starting line-up for Olympique de Marseille ahead of their Ligue 1 meeting with FC Nantes, Footynaija reports.
Weah will miss the fixture after collecting his fifth yellow card of the campaign in domestic competitions, triggering an automatic one-match ban. His absence presents a selection challenge for head coach Habib Beye, particularly on the right side where the American has been used both as a winger and wing-back this season.
Marseille have several options to fill the gap, including Hamed Traorè, Michael Amir Murillo and Pol Lirola, while more attacking reshuffles could involve Igor Paixão or Ethan Nwaneri. However, Weah, on loan at Marseille from Juventus, believes Nnadi is ready to take on the responsibility.
“Who’s going to replace me with my suspension?” Weah said via MZ.
“There are plenty of players. Nnadi, he’s going to do the team a lot of good, he’s quick. We all saw him in the last match. I see him perfectly filling that role.”

The 22-year-old midfielder has quickly made an impression since joining from Belgian side Zulte Waregem in the winter window. His first full start came against OGC Nice, where he delivered a composed and energetic display.
Nnadi played 80 minutes and provided the decisive moment in the 66th minute, floating a precise cross for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to head home. He also recorded 69 touches, completed 85% of his passes, and contributed defensively with key recoveries and duels won.

It is a performance that convinced Weah of his potential importance.
“Nnadi? He’s well integrated into the team. He doesn’t talk much but he’s really strong in training,” Weah added. “I hope to see him in the big matches, he’s going to keep making us thrilled.”
Marseille head into the Nantes game sixth in the table on 53 points, with only three matches left to play. They are four points behind the top four and still chasing a Champions League place, while also needing to hold off teams like Monaco to secure European football next season.
