Emmanuel Fernandez has clinched a major individual honour after the Super Eagles defender was named Rangers’ Men’s Player of the Year for the 2025-26 campaign, Footynaija reports.
The 24-year-old Nigeria international collected the award at the club’s annual ceremony in Glasgow on Sunday, capping a remarkable debut season at Ibrox. Signed last summer from Peterborough United, Fernandez has quickly established himself as a key figure in manager Danny Röhl’s side, delivering consistent performances at the heart of defence.
His impact has been clear in both boxes. Fernandez has scored five goals in 23 Scottish Premiership appearances, while helping Rangers register 12 clean sheets during the league season. His physical presence, aerial strength and composure have turned him into one of the most reliable defenders in Scotland this term.
The centre-back’s progress has been matched by recognition across the league. He was the only Rangers player included in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year.
Fernandez has also taken significant steps on the international stage. He made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Iran on 27 March, coming off the bench, before scoring his first international goal just four days later in a 2-2 draw with Jordan.
His development is all the more striking given that he was playing in England’s third tier just a year ago. Now, after a breakthrough season in Scotland, he is attracting interest from several top European clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen.
The centre-back is currently valued at over €20 million by Rangers.
