Galatasaray’s summer planning is already under way and it could shape the future of their attack in dramatic fashion, Footynaija reports.
The Turkish champions are closely monitoring Promise David Akinpelu, the Canadian international currently playing for Union Saint-Gilloise. At 24, David has emerged as one of the most physically imposing forwards in Belgium, combining pace, aggression and relentless pressing. Those traits have reportedly placed him firmly on Galatasaray’s recruitment shortlist ahead of the new campaign.
Born in Brampton, Ontario, David previously represented Nigeria at Under-23 level before committing his senior international future to Canada. His rise in European football has been steady, highlighted by a memorable moment in November 2025 when he scored the decisive goal against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League, a performance that did not go unnoticed in Istanbul.
However, there is a complication. David recently underwent surgery to repair a ruptured hip tendon and is expected to be sidelined for around three months. The timing could affect both his club future and his hopes of cementing a place in Canada’s 2026 World Cup plans.
Galatasaray’s interest is layered. On one hand, David is viewed as a potential long-term successor to Mauro Icardi, whose contract situation remains unresolved. On the other, he could form a formidable partnership with Victor Osimhen, should the Nigerian striker remain in Istanbul.

That, though, is far from certain.
Osimhen’s performances this season have reignited interest from Europe’s elite. Bayern Munich are believed to have tracked him closely during recent European fixtures, while Barcelona are reportedly considering him as a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski. Financial constraints could complicate any deal in Spain, but admiration for Osimhen’s profile is clear. Interest is also thought to exist in England and France, with several leading clubs monitoring developments.
For Galatasaray, the equation is simple but delicate. If Osimhen stays, pairing him with a forward of David’s intensity could give the side one of Europe’s most physically dominant strike forces. If he departs, David may instead be tasked with filling an enormous void.
The coming transfer window promises decisive answers.
