Victor Osimhen delivered a performance that left at least one former professional questioning whether the Nigerian striker is entirely human, Footynaija reports.
Galatasaray edged Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie at RAMS Park on Tuesday, with Osimhen at the heart of everything the Turkish champions produced.
The Super Eagles striker did not find the scoresheet himself, his second-half effort was ruled out for offside in a decision that remains disputed, but his influence was unmistakable.
Osimhen created the only goal with a flicked header that Gabon international Mario Lemina converted, and throughout the evening he gave centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté a relentless, exhausting contest.
Former Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin, speaking on the Asist Analiz YouTube channel, was barely able to contain himself. “Galatasaray has an extraordinary player; Victor Osimhen,” he said. “You have to look at his genetics, he’s more than just a human. What does this guy eat, man? He must be eating lions.”
Engin reserved equally colourful praise for the club as a whole, insisting Galatasaray had treated one of Europe’s elite sides with something bordering on contempt: “Galatasaray played as if they were playing against a normal Anatolian team. Galatasaray is suffocating Liverpool.”
He also credited manager Okan Buruk for refusing to sit on the lead. “You can win 1-0 by defending, but Galatasaray is still looking for a second or third goal even in the 90+4th minute.”
Galatasaray travel to Anfield next week, where a positive result would take them into the quarter-finals for the first time in more than a decade.
