Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has made a bold claim that will stir debate among supporters of the Turkish champions, Footynaija reports.
In a club blessed with legendary forwards, Özbek says Victor Osimhen stands above modern icons such as Didier Drogba, Mauro Icardi and Hakan Şükür.
For a club whose history includes some of Europe’s most feared strikers, that is no small statement.
Galatasaray’s roll of honour in attack is long and glittering. Drogba arrived with global fame and delivered power and leadership. Şükür remains one of Turkey’s greatest-ever forwards, a symbol of an era. Icardi, meanwhile, has carved out his own place in the club’s folklore, becoming the highest-scoring foreign player in Galatasaray history and collecting five trophies, including three consecutive Super Lig titles.

Yet Özbek believes Osimhen brings something even more electrifying.
“Among the strikers who have played for Galatasaray, after Metin Oktay, Victor Osimhen is the one who excites me the most,” Özbek said as per Habersarikirmizi.
Only one name sits above the Nigerian in the president’s personal ranking; Metin Oktay, the club’s all-time leading scorer and one of Turkish football’s most revered figures. Oktay won six Golden Boots and delivered multiple league and cup titles before his death in 1991. For many fans, he is untouchable.

That Özbek places Osimhen directly behind him speaks volumes.
The president’s admiration goes beyond matchdays. “We admire Osimhen even when we watch him in training,” Özbek noted. “He performs as if he’s in a match even there. We’re afraid he might get injured.”
It is that relentless intensity: sprinting, pressing, and attacking every ball, that has reignited belief in Istanbul.
Osimhen’s goals have powered Galatasaray to the Champions League last 16 for the first time in 12 years. Seven goals and two assists in eight European games highlight his impact, including a decisive strike against Juventus to knock out the Italian giants.
Next comes an even sterner examination against Liverpool over two legs, starting at RAMS Park before the return at Anfield.
If Osimhen can carry Galatasaray beyond that hurdle, the debate may no longer be about whether he ranks above Drogba, Icardi or Şükür, but whether he can one day challenge the immortal legacy of Oktay himself.
