Nigeria’s Super Falcons responded in style to their weekend setback, defeating Cameroon 3-1 in Yaoundé to restore pride and momentum ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Footynaija reports.

Just days after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first of two friendlies, the African champions returned to the same Military Stadium with renewed purpose. The result was a far sharper, more composed performance that showed why they remain the continent’s dominant force.

Nigeria fell behind early once, conceding in the seventh minute to Cameroon. But unlike the previous encounter, there was no sense of panic. Instead, Nigeria controlled possession, pressed higher up the pitch and created sustained pressure in the final third.

The equaliser arrived in the 32nd minute. Chinwendu Ihezuo rose confidently inside the penalty area to head home a precise delivery from Rinsola Babajide, who proved influential throughout. The goal shifted momentum firmly in Nigeria’s favour.

Babajide then took centre stage just before half-time. After a scramble inside the box, she reacted quickest to fire home and give the visitors a deserved lead.

Head coach Justine Madugu had made several adjustments following the first defeat, restoring key figures including goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. The defensive unit looked more assured, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade helped drive the midfield with energy and discipline.

Nigeria sealed the win shortly after the hour mark when Michelle Alozie finished confidently to make it 3-1. The goal ensured there would be no late drama this time.

With the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations approaching, the victory offers both belief and clarity.

Nigeria, ten-time continental champions, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Malawi and Tanzania.

Having lifted the last title with a dramatic final win over Morocco, the Super Falcons appear determined to defend their crown. This performance in Yaoundé suggested they are rediscovering their rhythm at exactly the right time.
