Wolverhampton Wanderers have firmly rejected an approach from Turkish heavyweights Besiktas for Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare, footynaija.com reports.

The Premier League club are unmoved by a €15m (approx. N24 billion) offer as the January transfer window edges towards its conclusion.

The bid comes at a time of urgency for Besiktas, who were left light in attack after Tammy Abraham cut short his loan spell to return to the Premier League with Aston Villa. That departure has forced head coach Sergen Yalçın into the market for a recognised number nine, with El Bilal Touré currently his only senior option through the middle, a role the coach often prefers the Malian to vacate in favour of a wider position.

Reports suggest that discussions were opened with Wolves this week, but the Midlands club quickly made their stance clear. Wolves are understood to value Arokodare at well over €30m, effectively double the figure put forward by the 11-time Turkish champions.

That position is shaped by both financial and sporting considerations. Wolves only signed the Super Eagles striker last summer, paying around €26m to prise him away from Belgian side KRC Genk. With Arokodare still settling into English football, the club have little appetite for an early sale that would represent a loss.

There is also the issue of squad depth. Following Jorge Strand Larsen’s recent €50m move to Crystal Palace, Wolves are already light in attacking options. Arokodare’s role has grown in recent weeks, underlined by his Carabao Cup goal against Chelsea, and the club see him as part of their short-term fight to avoid relegation.

While regular football at a title-chasing Besiktas side could be attractive, Wolves are keen to keep hold of the striker as they battle through a difficult campaign.
